Patrick Henry | Historic Statue | McDonough, GA

Almost 193 years after becoming an official county, Henry County residents will have a way to commemorate Revolutionary War Patriot, Patrick Henry, for which Henry County is named. Thanks to the vision and exceptional talent of McDonough artist Andy Davis, a life size bronze sculpture will be dedicated to the county during a ceremony on Saturday, March 29th at 2:00 pm.

The ceremony will be even more momentous as decedent Patrick Henry Jolly, the 5th great grandson of the patriot, will recite a portion of the famous speech given by Patrick Henry at St. John’s Church in Richmond, Va.  Artist Andy Davis will be on hand to share his inspiration and vision for the sculpture.

Baseball season begins!

baseball, usssa, super nit

According to the Georgia USSSA baseball organization, the Largest Single Weekend Amateur Baseball Tournament in the World is being held right here in McDonough, GA and the surrounding south metro area.  The ‘Atlanta Spring Dual NIT’ is the official tournament name, but is also referred to as the Super NIT.  According to Tim Coley, Director of Henry County Parks & Recreation, “We  are  expecting approximately 520 teams. We are glad we are able to host this event every year, right here in Henry County.  It brings a lot of people to our area and they spend lots of money.”  Games will be played at several McDonough ballparks, including Richard Craig and Alexander Park, but because of the large number of teams, games will be spread all over the south metro area, with Henry County being the main hub.

Dallas McPherson, former MLB player, who has been apart of numerous Major League organizations, including Angles, Marlins, Giants, White Sox and others, now operates a baseball development organization called HardKnox Baseball, located right here in Henry County.  Dallas calls McDonough, GA home, where he is raising his family.  He said “It feels great to host this tournament right here.  There is so much travel for kids and parents once the season starts, that it is nice to have it in our backyard, making it easier for family and friends to come and watch the games.”  HardKnox has two of their own teams playing in the weekend tournament, a 7 & under and 10 & under team.  “This type of tournament is also great for the local economy, especially restaurants, hotels and they get to see our great city.” adds McPherson.

Henry County is excited that Georgia USSSA we will be adding a Summer NIT tournament the last weekend of May, and will hopefully bring a great number of teams.  For more information on things to see and do, or visitor information on the City of McDonough, visit or call 770.898.3196.  For information on Georgia USSSA baseball and the tournament game schedule, visit  Learn more about the HardKnox Baseball Development, owned by Dallas McPherson, at
